With bikini season well over, many of us are looking forward to covering up with oversized sweaters and baggy sweats. Of course, this is no reason to ditch your fitness regimen and get completely out of shape after all of your hard work this past summer. The cooler weather ahead may mean altering your workout routine to exercising indoors — or braving the cold outside. To give you some inspiration, here are a few great tips fit for cooler weather.
Plug In The DVD Player — Personally, I like working out at home, and fitness videos are my BFF. I have videos of all kinds ranging from cardio blasts and dancing to interval training and Pilates. Depending on your preference, or whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain, or build muscle, the type of videos you choose will vary. Keep a variety on hand to suit your mood for the day. Fortunately, fitness DVDs are very affordable, especially when shopping online or at a used bookstore. Want to see videos for free? Search the web to stream videos to your computer!
Invest In Some Equipment — We know not everyone can afford to buy cardio machines such as an elliptical trainer or a treadmill, but yoga mats, hand weights, kettlebells, and fitness bands are all super affordable. Shop at your local discount retailer or used sports equipment store to find these items for cheap! On the other hand, if you can afford a cardio machine, go for it! Invest away…
Inquire About a Gym Membership — If your budget allows, you may want to inquire about a gym membership. If you are a student, check if your school offers memberships for their on-campus facilities or student discounts on memberships elsewhere. Also check out Planet Fitness to see if there are any in your area. This gym is very affordable with memberships available for around $10 a month. Several of us on the Sunglass Warehouse team are members or have been in the past, and we think it’s a great value for your money!
Need something more interactive? Look into classes such as yoga, Pilates, dance, or Zumba. Keep an eye on daily deal websites such as Groupon and LivingSocial for huge discounts on classes!
Run Outside, But Layer Up! — Not for the faint of heart, you may opt to continue working out outside. Be sure to check the weather reports before heading out the door, and dress accordingly. If there is any chance that ice may be present, stay inside and pop in a DVD. If weather permits, play it safe and bring a friend or at least take your cell phone. You never know when an emergency could arise!
