The Top 5 Things to Do in Indy This September

It seems like in the Midwest, fall is everyone’s favorite season. With the leaves changing, temperatures cooling off, and pesky mosquitos finally disappearing, we can’t say we blame them.

Indy Jazz Fest

September 10 – 20

An annual event put on by the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation, Indy Jazz Fest is a long-standing staple for the month of September in the city.

Featuring 10 days of concerts, master classes, and panel discussions at various times and locations throughout the city, you don’t want to miss out on this city-wide celebration of Jazz.

The 10-day event kicks off with a free concert at the University of Indianapolis, and concludes with the Jazz Fest Block Party at SoBro hot spot, The Jazz Kitchen. Check Do317 for all Jazz Fest event listings, details, and ticketing info.

The 3rd Annual Sun King CANvitational

Georgia Street

September 12, 12:00PM

Get ready for one of the best beer events in Indianapolis all year long. The Sun King CANvitational always proves to be one of Indy’s most raved about experiences.

Located on Georgia Street, known for the Pan Am Plaza and its Super Bowl festivities, craft breweries will line the sidewalks, providing patrons with samples of beer from all over the U.S.

When (notice we didn’t say “if”) you get hungry, local food trucks will be present in surplus to feed the masses and provide you with some of Indy’s best street food.

Indy Irish Fest

Military Park

September 18 – 20

Enjoy three days of fun at Indy Irish Fest going on downtown at Military Park at White River State Park.

Indy Irish Fest is the best celebration of Irish heritage in the entire midwest. Between traditional music, dance, cultural activities, and lots of family fun, you’ll want to hang out at Irish Fest all weekend long (and really, it’s okay if you do).

The pre-festival kicks off at 4:30PM on  Thursday, September 17 with a concert and plenty of food and drink to go around. Friday runs from from 4:30PM – 10:30PM, Saturday from 11:30AM – 11:00PM, and Sunday from 10:30AM – 5:00PM with Mass at 10:30AM.

Art Squared Art Fair

Fountain Square Plaza

September 19, 12:00PM – 6:00PM

One of the best parts about this art fair? It’s free to attend! Load up the family and head down to Fountain Square for an afternoon of creative fun.

Local artists and vendors will have booths set up for you to browse and shop for their handmade arts and creations. Not big on shopping? There’s a lot more to do at this event including Masterpiece in a Day, Fountain Square’s one-day art and writing competition, and an Art Parade starting at 4:00PM.

Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park

September 19, 7:30PM

After the art fair you can head over to White River State Park for some more outdoor fun at one of the best live music venues in Indy.

Grab a lawn chair, a beer, and a blanket and settle in for alt-J.The indie-alternative band has grown in popularity this year, and their opening support from San Fermin and Best Coast is sure to be crowd-pleasing as well.

Tickets range from $35-60 and are still available through Live Nation.
