‘Tis the season! Everyone has the holidays on their minds. Christmas trees are up, Starbucks cups are red, and the stockings are hung by the chimney with care. But what in the world are you going to put in them? Under-the-tree gifts are usually the easy part, but stocking stuffers have to be small (enough to fit in a stocking) and creative — and inexpensive is always good, too. Before you stress yourself out trying to think of perfect stuffers, read our list of six stupendous stocking stuffers!
Gift cards: I know, I know, they’re the ultimate “I didn’t know what to give you gift,” but that’s if it’s given as THE gift (as in, the only gift you’re giving someone). A gift card in a stocking is a stroke of brilliance though. It’s one more gift that comes unexpectedly, and it doesn’t need to be a high amount; it’s just a little stocking stuffer. Get one to someone’s favorite restaurant, clothing store, the movies…the opportunities are endless.
Candy: Yes, I’m 21 years old. Yes, I still want candy in my stocking. The holidays are the time of year when we’re allowed to eat everything we want and the calories don’t count. Why wouldn’t someone want candy for that reason? Also, it’s probably been a cold, dark haul to make it to the holidays. When you’re tired and worn out, a little chocolate will do the trick. The fun thing about candies is that you can either make your own or buy someone’s favorite. Homemade candy is such a thoughtful gift.
Socks: One can never have too many socks. The dryer monster eats them on a weekly basis after all. Although not the most exciting gift, they are sure to be well appreciated. Warm fuzzy slipper socks are really fun to get this time of year.
Gadgets and tools: Tools and gadgets are perfect for stockings. Stick in a tire gauge for dad, some new tools for your brother, and maybe some cooking utensils for the chef in your family.
Toiletries: Soaps, lotions, shampoos, toothbrushes, and toothpaste — all things we buy for ourselves over and over. Wouldn’t it be nice to get your next supply of shampoo and toothpaste in your stocking? It’s practical and useful, and there are many holiday scents that can be chosen.
Sunglasses: It’s always exciting to pull something you will wear out of the stocking. Sunglasses are small enough to fit in a stocking, they can be inexpensive, and they’re useful for everyone. Cat eye sunglasses are great for your trendy family members, sports sunglasses for the guys, kids sunglasses for little ones, and my favorite: 2012 glasses to ring in the New Year…
