June 1st is National Running Day, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than…well, running! But this day is about more than just running. It’s about shedding light on the unhealthy lifestyles that many lead, and today provides the perfect opportunity to begin adding exercise into your daily routine.
But before you lace up and head out the door, here are a few tips to make the most of your run:
Keeping your eyes protected from UV rays is almost as important as looking good on the run. Here are some good options— and some tips to help you choose which sunglasses are right for you. You can also find your local UV index here to ensure you’re doing enough to protect your eyes and skin.
2. Stay hydrated.
Drink plenty of water before you take off. If you’re going for a lengthy jog, make pit stops along the way– parks and other public areas can provide much needed water fountains.
3. Take a friend with you.
Running is best enjoyed in the company of others. Take a co-worker, family member, or even a neighbor along for the ride.
4. Beware of Mother Nature.
The summer heat can turn any run into a bad experience. If you can, run in the morning or evening when it’s cooler.
5. Don’t celebrate too hard.
No one is expecting you to break any records out there. Make sure you take it easy and have fun!
