diy festive frames

Whether you’re dressed to the nines or sporting the ugliest sweater you can find, the holiday season (or as we like to call it — party season) presents the perfect opportunity to show off your personal style. That’s why this winter, we’ve challenged crafty DIY bloggers with the task of transforming our shades into holiday glasses that are 100% unique. Check back each week as we feature new frames or browse the entire batch of DIY-ed styles here.

Today’s glitzy glasses come from Cathy of Trinkets In Bloom.

Add some sparkle to a pair of black cat eyes with this Holiday Glitter Sunglasses DIY tutorial.

glitter sunglasses diy inspiration

I was inspired to make these glitter sunglasses after seeing this gorgeous pair from Jimmy Choo. Here’s a fun and quick way to get this great look without breaking the bank.

Materials

  • Black cat eye sunglasses (I used these)
  • Mod Podge
  • Fine silver glitter
  • Bowl
  • Brushes (1 medium for mixing, 1 small for painting)
  • Aluminum foil

Step 1

glitter sunglasses diy mixing

Line your bowl with aluminum foil, then pour in your Mod Podge and glitter. I usually start with about a 50/50 ratio and add more glitter if I need too. (For this project, you’ll want to use a very fine glitter; if you use too large a glitter they will look too crusty.) Mix until it’s as thick as you want.

Step 2

Using your small brush, start dabbing your mixture onto your sunglasses.

TIP: Dabbing is the best way to go with this. If you try to brush it on, it will be too thin, and you’ll wipe all the glitter off.

Step 3

Continue dabbing your mixture all over your sunglasses where you want it to be.

TIP: Keep a wet paper towel nearby just in case you need to wipe any extra off.

Let it dry, but be sure to keep some extra mixture nearby. As the glue dries, you will want to add more to some areas.
