‘Tis the season for crafting! You’re not the only one adding more pins to that DIY board as the holidays approach. We challenged our favorite bloggers to create some fun, easy DIYs with nothing but a box of crazy-festive crafting supplies. Check out what they came up with and try them out on your own!
Our next holiday DIY comes from Ashley of The Party Girl. Follow along with her step-by-step instructions on how to make these awesome Christmas shades, perfect for that highly anticipated ugly sweater party. Read on!
Materials:
-
glue gun
-
glitter pom-poms in Christmas colors
-
red and gold wire
-
pen
-
jingle bell
-
tiny Santa hat
- pair of super-cute polka dot shades (like these!)
Step 1
The first thing you want to do is make your letters for the top of your sunglasses (get the hard part out of the way first!). I used alternating red and gold wire for my letters, but you can choose different colors if you prefer! Using a pen as a base, wrap the wire around the pen to create a long spiral shape.
For the “O” shape, you want the spiral to be about the length of your pen.
For the “H”, wrap the wire the length of the pen and then cut it in two. Wrap a small piece for the middle part of the H.
Make two of each letter, so you can spell out “HOHO”. Alternately, you could write “JOY” or “SANTA” or even “2015” if you wanted to use this idea for New Year’s!
Step 2
Using your hot glue gun, add a line of glue along the top of your sunglasses and start pressing on your pom-poms. Do this step in small chunks so your glue doesn’t dry before you can get the pom-poms on. I used smaller pom-poms for the top arch of the sunglasses, and then two large pom-poms on each side.
Step 3
Once your pom-poms are dry, they can serve as a stronger base for your letters. Using your hot glue gun, add a big blob of glue inside the wire on the bottom of each “leg” of the letter H. Press the H down gently so that each “leg” adheres to a pom-pom. Hold it there gently for about 30 seconds to give the glue a chance to dry. Repeat these steps for the other letters.
I also added a little santa hat on one corner of my sunglasses (who can resist?!) and added a jingle bell on the other side, because go big or go home, right?
And that’s all! Once everything is dry you can wear your sunglasses. If you aren’t dancing when you put them on, you’re doing it wrong. The best part of the holidays is being a little silly, wouldn’t you agree?
Happy Holidays!
