Upon hearing Katy Perry’s new hit single ‘California Gurls,’ I immediately fell in love with the song. I mean, Snoop Dogg and Katy Perry, what’s not to like? And though I’d like to think that it’s Midwest girls who are unforgettable, I put my feelings aside. After all, ‘skin so hot we’ll melt your popsicle’ makes perfect sense, but ‘humidity so high, we’ll knock the breath out of you,’ just doesn’t sound appealing.
Anyway, it’s a catchy tune. I also happen to follow Katy Perry on Twitter. (Don’t judge me.) So, of course, I saw all her tweets about shooting the video and how awesome it would be. So here I am anticipating this video that’s been built up in my head via tweet. And then it debuts…and I’m so confused.
My first thoughts, why Candy Land? And why does this video have nothing to do with California? So I get to thinking about where Candy Land is from and I’m thinking to myself that it’s gotta be Canada. I don’t know where this logic came from, but I was pretty set on Canada. So then I decided to Google this and come to find out, the game was designed in 1945 by Eleanor Abbott while she was recovering from polio in….drumroll please….San Diego, CALIFORNIA. Did Miss Perry know this? The world may never know.
So that clears that bit up, but I still wonder why Katy is lying naked on a cloud…and what is up with Snoop Dogg’s sunglasses? I’m not quite sure. What do you think?
