You may have a stash of these somewhere, or at least remember having a few pairs lying around at random from a birthday party or your local insurance firm. Cheap wayfarer sunglasses with neon temples and a company’s logo splashed onto the side are a common giveaway. This fun form of advertising picked up during the 90s. Hard to believe, but Ray Ban’s were nearly discontinued in 1981 but gained major popularity after some product placement in television and movies. Let’s face it, it wouldn’t be “Risky Business” without the Ray Ban Wayfayers. Sadly, they took another dip in the 90s when the style was replicated for promotional giveaways. Meant more for fun than style, people sporting these styles in the 90s were probably doing it more for a laugh than a style statement.
But, thanks to another style pick up, the Wayfarer’s have become popular once again, and we doubt this advertising trend will be going away any time soon. Plus, buying in bulk makes these a fun handout for under a buck!
