Meet Sammi: a singer, actor, and vintage fashionista who blogs about her love for all things girly and retro on The Soubrette Brunette. Sammi grew up with performers for parents, and most of her style inspiration comes from her theatre years. We sat down with Sammi to learn more about her taste in fashion (and sunglasses!) — check it out below.
Sammi looking retro-feminine in our #1272s
What sunglass style personality do you best identify with?
Sammi: I took the quiz and was identified as the Party Rocker, but I think I’m more of an Indie Artist. I love all things retro and vintage-inspired, and I’m very much the artsy type.
If you had to choose one item from your closet to take with you on a deserted island, what would it be?
Sammi: This is such a tough question because I’m outrageously attached to my dress collection! I guess if I’m going to be on an island a swimsuit would come in handy. I’d probably take a high-waisted, retro two-piece suit!
If you could have lunch with anyone (past or present), who would it be and why?
Sammi: I’d love to have lunch with Amy Poehler. Of course she’s incredibly funny and talented, but she’s also bright and articulate. She has such great advice about being young and creative, and I think she’s a great role model for so many women.
What would you consider the ultimate fashion fail?
Sammi: I think the biggest style mistake you can make is wearing something that doesn’t make you feel confident. You can always learn to dress for your body type and to play with proportions in different ways to flatter your figure. But, no matter what, you should always wear clothes that make you feel like the best version of yourself.
What is the best fashion advice you have ever received and from who?
Sammi: I’ve heard this time and time again (from different people) — you should always dress for yourself. If the things you wear make you feel happy and beautiful, then that’s all that matters. Never compromise on what you like in order to impress someone else.
If you had a personal theme song, what would it be?
Sammi: I’d probably say something like “Gonna Get Over You” by Sara Bareilles. It puts an upbeat twist on a painful situation. I always try to find the joy in life, especially when I’m going through a hard time. Plus, I just love her music, and I certainly wouldn’t mind having it follow me around wherever I go!
What’s your current Internet addiction?
Sammi: I think the answer to this question will always be shopping!
And since you have an eye for fashion — what are some of your favorite Sunglass Warehouse shades?
Sammi: I absolutely love these heart-shaped shades (which I have in red), and I think these retro cat eyes are divine! I tend to gravitate towards fun frames, and retro styles always complement my wardrobe.
Thanks for chatting with us, Sammi — we’ve loved getting to know you and love, love your style!
