Steal the Style: Top 2011, Early 2012 Accessory Trends

As an avid bargain-hunter, I know a thing or two about browsing designer duds and buying look-alikes that fit within my not-so-designer budget.  With so many amazing trends this past year—from crazy neon colors to classic leopard prints—2011 has been a year of fashion gold. And when it comes to accessories, the look-for-less sunglasses, handbags, and scarves of 2012 have sent me straight to fashion heaven.

If you’re a frugal fashionista like me and you haven’t already, set up a Polyvore account (and follow me and Maggie, we love new friends and inspirations)! This lovely/amazing/rock-your-world website allows you to “clip” clothing and accesssories to your profile, browse designer and affordable pieces, follow the latest styles, and gather clothing creativity from other set creators. It basically makes your perfect closet dreams come true.

Below are a couple of Splurge vs. Steal sets I put together featuring the top  accesssories of 2011 and trending ones for 2012. Use the “steals”—all found at SunglassWarehouse.com, HandbagHeaven.com, and AffordableScaves.com—to get similar looks without maxing out your credit card (or sending you into a psychological meltdown). Most of these look-alikes are unbelievably similar to their famous counterparts, making it that much easier to trick your girlfriends into thinking they’re the real deal. No worries, it’ll be our little secret.

Staff Review: SW Oversized #238

oversized sunglassesLet me tell you…we have a lot of sunglasses in our warehouse. A lot.

Now, usually I flock to the retro shades. Anything funky, and I’m on it. But, as I was searching through the sunglasses, I fell in love. What did I fall in love with? Well the SW Oversized #238 sunglasses of course.

There are five different frame options, but the light brown frames have to be my favorite. The large lenses provide UV400 protection, which is definitely a bonus. All I noticed when I put them on was how rad they looked.

Now I’m just going to have to justify buying them, when I already have quite a sunglasses collection. If I have to get up and try them on one more time, I think it’s justified. Or you could buy these sunglasses, and I’ll live vicariously through you. Please?

Staff Review: SW Paint Splatter #1650

I’m always down for a pair of funky shades. I’ve recently been sporting a pair that looks like they came straight from the 80s, from the set of Flashdance. They have bright pink and teal horizontal stripes and dark frames. Oh yes, I needed them. They are often referred to as my “awesome blossom” glasses by my friends.

So here I am, going through our enormous stock of sunglasses looking for a pair that sticks out to me and I found them!

Our Paint Splatter #1650 also look like they came straight from a cheesy 80s movie. And those are my type of sunglasses. The retro frames in funky colors made them cool enough, but it doesn’t stop there. These frames are splattered with black paint.

They come in orange, purple, blue, green and pink so get your 80s on and get a pair of these sunglasses.

Staff Review: SW Rhinestone Style #40

I found a pair of sunglasses that have it all! They have the popular Wayfarer shape. They have a great lens tint with UV 400 protection. Oh yeah, and rhinestone detailing at the top that you won’t be able to resist! So can sunglasses really be as perfect as I’m saying these ones are? YES! Check it.

The SW Rhinestone Style #40 will be the talk of the town with everyone for sure asking you where you got such a fly pair of shades. They just so happen to come in four color choices: black, pink, purple and tortoise. So go ahead and get a pair that you prefer, but don’t be surprised by all the attention you attract!

Staff Review: Cat Eye Style #9100

Cat eye shaped frames are timeless. The look came straight from the 50s and 60s and continue to give off a classic and vintage-y look. I believe that might have been why I fell in love with these shades…

They seem modern in a way with the oversized lenses, but also give off a timeless look with the lens shape. They’re feminine and flirty while being subtle at the same time. Are you wondering if that’s possible? Well it is.

You will probably put these sunglasses on and instantly feel like a movie star. And that’s okay, because you’ll look like one too. So strut your stuff.
