Hot Trends for the Red Carpet 2012

This year’s awards season is about half over, but some of the most important shows are yet to come. And while I do enjoy seeing who takes home trophies, my favorite part of any awards show is watching gowns on the red carpet. This is the time when celebs don their greatest and show off the hottest trends (and sometimes the not so hot) of the year. So what are we seeing this year? Here are some looks we love and expect to see more of during 2012:

When it comes to color, the 2012 SAG awards showed us a lot of nude and muted tones, as well as varying shades of gray.

Lea Michelle white dress sag awards

Lea Michelle looked stunning at the SAG Awards. Definitely more grown-up than Rachel Berry, right? I love the monochrome silvery grey of her dress, bracelet, clutch, and shoes. And that slit! That’s a trend that may require a few extra trips to the gym.

Black is always a timeless, classic staple for the SAG awards and definitely a safe call, but of course it can be accessorized to show personal style. Here’s another photo from the SAG Awards of Emma Stone looking beautiful in black.

Her black frock also hits on another big formal trend for 2012: a retro silhouette. A mid-calf skirt, drop waist, and a lace-detailed bodice make this dress look so ’50s glam.

While some prefer muted tones or sticking to the classics, there are always those celebs who love to make a big splash when they strut on to that red carpet. I love Emily Blunt’s green!

Emily Blunt green dress

Emily’s dress is similar to Lea Michelle’s with its one shoulder, wrapped bodice, and slit. But this bright green really pops against the red carpet!

As far as hair trends go, the Golden Globes gave us a taste of what we might be seeing on the red carpet for the rest of the awards season. It seems like updos are taking the backseat to long flowing locks, whether wavy or straight. Headbands are also sure to make a big splash! Slick and sleek looks are trending for men and women.

Some emerging nail trends for 2012 are repeats, such as matching nails to lipstick. Another popular nail style for 2012 is alternating opposite nail colors, such as wearing neons and neutrals every other nail. Natural nails and having every nail a different color are becoming popular as well.

Sunglasses have always, and will always be, a popular way of making a statement at awards ceremonies. Popular 2012 sunglass styles are cat eye, nerd styles, and clear lenses.

Other trends include statement bracelets, black and white (anything), red dresses, embellishments, bustles, and color blocking. Of course, there are always surprises on the red carpet (Lady Gaga), so be sure to tune in and let us know what trends you like!

Popular Styles of Men’s Sunglasses for 2012

Hey guys, we know you don’t always put a lot of thought into what socks you’re wearing or which hat you grab when you leave the house. It’s apparent that in some cases, function trumps fashion. That’s why we’re here to help. Sunglasses do serve a very valuable function in protecting your eyes from the damage the sun can cause. However, they’re very visible…they’re on your face, so why not make sure they look good? Here are some popular styles of men’s sunglasses for 2012.

ryan reynolds sunglassesI’m just going to lay it out on the table: Women love Ryan Reynolds. Women really love Ryan Reynolds with a puppy. Women also really love Ryan Reynolds in sports sunglasses. Do you catch my drift?

James Franco sunglassesJames Franco has the right idea with his retro wayfarer sunglasses. It’s a very popular and attractive look for men that is here to stay. For a pair very similar to his, check out the SW Retro Style #1688.

Zac Efron aviatorsWell hello Zac Efron! He has certainly graduated from High School Musical, hasn’t he? Zac rocks aviator sunglasses, a very dashing look for men.

Obviously, taking fashion cues from the men America can’t keep its eyes off of is a good idea. But there are other ways to discover what’s popular in the sunglasses realm. Sunglass Warehouse allows you to sort men’s sunglasses by popularity, and when that is done, here’s the most popular pair of glasses you can get:

silver aviator sunglasses

Our SW Mirrored Aviator Style #1690 is the star of the show. Maybe Zac Efron takes fashion cues from Sunglass Warehouse ;)

There are several more pairs of aviators in the most popular list, but the next style that remains a favorite is retro sunglasses. Sports styles and rimless sunglasses also make their way into our list of most-loved sunglasses. So guys, take a look around Sunglass Warehouse. See what styles others love, read the reviews to see which pairs customers rave about, and choose a pair for yourself!

Celebrity Moms in Winter’s Most Stylish

From cuddles to carpools, a mom’s job is never-ending. When you become a mom, no one is there with a job description; you learn on the fly, and no two days are the same. But with all that chauffeuring back and forth to sporting events, dance lessons, and everywhere in-between, it can be hard to find time for yourself, especially when it comes to that  no-fuss wardrobe (am I right, ladies?).  Well I’ve got good news: having a trendy, chic closet this season is easier than ever. Just take a page out of these celebrity mom’s books and imitate their winter style!

It seems like just yesterday Hilary Duff was Lizzie McGuire (and just a kid herself!), but now she’s pregnant with her own little one on the way. However, Hil hasn’t let pregnancy take away her right to look casual-chic.

She looks so comfortable here in an oversized sweater and slouchy jeans. The retro black shades, embellished booties, and mint green tote definitely add some pizazz to her attire. Layering is big this winter, so throw on that comfy sweater and accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

Here we have Hilary in a simple black shirt. She’s wearing a pair of dark aviators, hoop earrings, a leather satchel, and a knit hat to top off the look. Her look is classic, but the edgy accessories give it a fresh, updated feel.

Another stylish celeb with a busy schedule is Nicole Richie, mommy to Harlow and Sparrow. Here, she’s seen walking Harlow to ballet practice. She looks rocker-chic in the motorcycle jacket, black skinny jeans, boots, and pair of oversized shades. Buckles, leather, chains, and studs are trending now, and the best way to add them into your wardrobe (without looking too much like a biker babe) are by pairing them with flowy clothing and feminine touches.

I love this winter picture of Nicole and her little bundle! Mommies, be sure to keep yourself and your little ones warm with thick, adorable winter hats. They add just the right amount of warmth and cozy appeal to any winter outfit! Choose winter favorites like scarves, hats, and gloves in bright colors or winter whites, and don’t be afraid of a little embellishment or pattern. Let your warm weather gear make just as big of a fashion statement as your gorgeous New Year’s dress.

J Lo, mother to two adorable twins Max and Emme, is seen wearing one of the hottest winter shoe trends: over-the-knee boots. Pair this look with a coat and even some tights to stay extra warm! I’m loving those sky-high cat eye sunglasses of hers, too: from Kourtney Kardashian to Jennifer Lopez, it seems like celeb mommies can’t get enough of those retro shades.

Fur accents are huge right now and keep you extra toasty: try a vest like Miss Lopez, a fur coat for wintery festivities, or a fur scarf (we love this one!) for a luxxe accent piece. Now that is a woman who knows how to fight the cold with style!

I hope these celebrity styles have inspired you. Of course, once you become a mom, you have to worry about the little people before you worry about yourself, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish. Winter seems to be the time when style usually takes the backseat to warmth, but it doesn’t have to. Brighten up your mood when it’s a cold, dark day outside by dressing like one hot momma!

The Style Evolution of Kendall and Kylie Jenner

It’s hard to believe that Keeping Up with the Kardashians premiered only four years ago, in 2007. Before the show, few people had heard of the now-famous clan and we certainly weren’t inundated with Kardashian news on a daily basis. Kim was the original star of the show, but that fame quickly trickled down the family tree to the youngest daughters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

In a recent TeenVogue interview, Kendall remarked on her initial reaction to having her life filmed, “I’ve always been a shy person, so all the attention around my family was weird in the beginning. But we’ve come out of our shells, and now it’s cool for people to see how we’ve grown.”

Not only have the sisters matured as individuals, they’ve each developed their own unique fashion sense. Today, Kendall and Kylie’s styles influence millions of fans and fashion devotees.  Kendall, 16, has a more feminine style than 14-year old Kylie who likes to give her ensembles an edgy feel. Kendall tends to opt for flowy fabrics and soft colors, especially when it comes to her formal wear. Kylie is often photographed rocking her signature leather jacket and leans toward dark colors and sharper lines.  True California girls, both Kendall and Kylie like to relax in laid-back jeans, tanks, retro sunglasses, and sandals.

These clearly defined looks weren’t always the case; see their style evolution from unassuming, adorable young girls to total fashionistas.

Beckham Family Fashion

Beckham family photo

Have you ever seen a more attractive family? Or parents who look so well put together despite having three sons? But I suppose a family is bound to look good with a fashion icon mom like Victoria Beckham leading the pack — she’s graced the covers of three different editions of Vogue and she has her own fashion lines, for goodness sake! And world-famous athlete David Beckham definitely adds to the overall attractiveness of the family. Am I right, ladies?

One thing that always sticks out to me when I think of the Beckhams is sunglasses.Victoria has even been quoted on the fact that she is “quite obsessed with sunglasses” and that “they can virtually make any outfit look cool.” We agree at Sunglass Warehouse. I’m definitely a fan of the aviator sunglasses David is wearing in the picture above  and those oversized round sunglasses add to Victoria’s stunning look.

 Beckham sons sunglasses

Of course, sunglass style isn’t reserved for just Mr. and Mrs. Beckham. Victoria and David shield their kids’ eyes from UV rays and from the pop of paparazzi bulbs with kid’s sunglasses. In the photo above, the Beckham boys are rocking  kids aviator sunglasses and kids wayfarer sunglasses. And I think when Harper gets a little bigger, these are so her. Keep an eye out. The Beckhams are the family to watch for style tips.

Get Beyonce’s Pregnancy Style

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you need to start donning the mom jeans and oversized sweatshirts. Rather, it can be a chance to try new styles and to get creative with your clothing. Take a few hints from style icon, Beyoncé, who, in case you’ve been living under a rock since September and the MTV Video Music Awards, revealed that she and her hubby, Jay-Z were expecting their first child.

Beyonce Reveals Pregnancy at VMAs

Since her dramatic pregnancy announcement at the VMA’s, Beyoncé has dressed her baby bump in perfect style.

A casual maxi dress and nude heels are a great example of how to stay chic even when just running errands or going to a low-key dinner. Be sure waist line of your dress hits above the baby bump, at your smallest circumference. Add a long necklace and fabulous cat eye sunglasses to draw the attention upwards towards your face.

For another casual, but slightly more professional look, throw on a blazer over a flowy top like Beyoncé did below. A well-cut blazer will add definition to your silhouette while the top is comfortable and hides that precious stomach. As with the above outfit, bring the attention upwards with a fun leopard print scarf and oversized sunglasses. And don’t think you can’t still rock the skinny jeans and heels, momma!

Beyonce's Pregnant Style

For a night out, show off your best assets and flaunt those long legs! Pick a dress that cinches above your tummy at the smallest part of your waist. Look for a deep neckline, like a scoop neck or deep v-neck so you’re not completely covered up to your neck (hellooo, images of a monotone-colored blimp). Plus, the goal of these outfits is to bring people’s eyes upwards and away from your belly, and believe me; a deep neckline will certainly do the trick!

Beyonce Style

Above all, work that pregnancy glow: smile and be confident. You’re pregnant; be proud of your new body and stop worrying about the baby weight or the way your favorite jeans no longer button. Pregnancy is a beautiful time in a woman’s life; so do like Beyoncé and Own It!

Paint Your Way into Fall Fashion

This fall, it’s all about color. Whether your color-blocking your way to fashionista status or embracing the neutral trend with a camel-colored poncho, you’re definitely making a stylish statement. Lucky for you, the fashion and beauty team at SunglassWarehouse.com have joined together to help add even more pizazz to that dashing wardrobe of yours. How, you say?

Nail polish has evolved from a pretty manicure and pedicure technique to a full-on stylish accessory for your outfit. Even better: when paired with the season’s must-have pieces like knee socks and cat eye sunglasses in the same hue, you might as well be strutting your stuff on the Fashion Week runways, because you, my friend, have impeccable taste.

Now tidy up those fingers and toes, and spice up your typical fall wardrobe with these outfit-enhancing polishes and chic additions:

Greige is a clever term for beige and gray hues. It’s also the perfect way to look polished and trendy at the same time. Pastels like pale pinks and nudes look great on everyone and will add a romantic, subtle touch to your rockin’ weekend look. Pair with cat eye sunglasses, knee socks, a tan messenger bag, and a matching scarf, and you’ll look sexy and sweet.

Blues are the “it” nail colors for fall. Deep navy has been spotted on red carpet celebs like Eva Mendes, Lauren Conrad, and Khloe Kardashian. Brighter blues add a splash of retro to a dressy or casual ensemble, as seen here on Camilla Belle, Jessica Alba, and Hilary Duff. Pair this blue hue with Lady Gaga shades, argyle socks, a faux fur purse (such a fall fabric do!), and a comfy loop scarf, and you’ll have celebrity potential in no time.

Purple is the color of passion, romance, and luxury, so wear this polish to spice up your nails for date night. Paired with these purple retro sunglasses, a plum pair of socks, this metallic satchel, and a fringe scarf, you’ll be simply irresistible.

Metallic and metal shades are an edgy, easy way to pull off fall’s nail polish trends, because they go with basically everything! Plus, they add a touch of diva to your wardrobe: just ask our girls Beyonce, Katy Perry, and Rihanna. Add some instant sass with this shiny shade, and wear it with  fake ray bans, gray boot socks, a glitzy bag, and a leopard print scarf. Every girl’s gotta love instant glam!

Fall’s ruby reds and burgundies are perfect for those of you who love classic, old Hollywood sophistication.  Fire engine reds and berry colors are the hottest right now, and all are so easy to wear with everything from your LBD to a sweater and jeans. Add a red pop of color to the rest of your ensemble: aviators, plaid knee highs, a mini shoulder bag, or a knit scarf. Trust us, all eyes will be on you.

Fashion Week Incorporates Shades on the Runway

Although not all of us could attend New York Fashion Week, we were there in spirit as designers showcased their best new trends. Some of the recurring trends seen were color blocking, asymmetrical hems, the rocker look (edgy biker jackets a’plenty), pleats, and dots. And of course I couldn’t help but notice those sunglasses on the runway!

Jenny Kayne sunglasses

That soft outfit is from the Jenny Kayne collection for Spring 2012. Let’s get real, though. Who can afford what you see on the runway during Fashion Week? The point is to be inspired by what the designers show. I’m inspired to show you sunglasses that look similar to the pair seen above, but won’t break bank. For the look above, I’d consider oversized retro sunglasses, which will cost you a mere $4.80, 75% off their original price.

Rachel Comey sunglassesThis classic American look comes from Rachel Comey’s collection. To get the look, I suggest our very popular wayfarer sunglasses.

Now that Fashion Week has ended, what are your thoughts on the shows? Are there any trends you especially like or dislike?
